לימוד תורה
About
Our Story
לימוד תורה was inspired by one man who has been doing something extraordinary, quietly, for decades.
Steve Benzion — teacher, father, and the heart behind this project — has spent countless hours sitting with Bar Mitzvah students one by one, guiding them through every word of their reading with patience that never seems to run out. Boys, girls, nervous kids, reluctant ones — he's helped them all find their voice.
His son built this site to carry that same spirit further: to give every student, wherever they are, access to that same calm, patient guidance. Every recording here is a real voice, donated so that others can learn from it. Every word that lights up as you read is a small echo of what Steve has always done in person — and still does.
We believe Torah learning should be accessible, joyful, and passed down with love. Whether you're twelve years old preparing for your big day, or an adult studying the weekly portion — you're welcome here.
How to Use the Site
Getting started takes less than a minute. Here's how it works:
Pick a portion
Browse all 54 weekly Torah portions, organized by book. Search by name in English or Hebrew. Save your favorites so they appear first every time you visit.
Listen and follow along
Press play and every word lights up in sync with the audio — at a pace designed for learning, not just reading. Tap any word to jump straight to it. Adjust playback speed if you need more time.
Track your progress
Mark each aliyah as Learning or Ready as you go. Your progress is saved automatically and visible on your dashboard whenever you come back.
Tips for Bar & Bat Mitzvah Preparation
Preparing a Torah reading takes time, repetition, and patience — with yourself. Here are some approaches that work:
📅
Start early
Ideally 3–6 months before your date. Even 10 minutes a day adds up faster than you think.
🎧
Listen before you read
Play the recording several times before trying to read along. Let your ear learn the melody first.
📖
One aliyah at a time
Don't try to learn the whole portion at once. Master one aliyah, mark it Ready, then move to the next.
🔁
Repeat, repeat, repeat
There's no shortcut. The more times you hear and read a passage, the more natural it becomes.
🤫
Read out loud
Silent reading won't help you on the day. Practice speaking the words aloud every session.
🌟
Celebrate small wins
Every aliyah you mark Ready is a real achievement. This is a long journey — enjoy each milestone.
How Recordings Get onto the Site
Every recording on this site was contributed by a real person — a teacher, cantor, or someone who simply reads Torah well and wanted to share it. Here's how the process works:
A contributor records or uploads
Contributors with an account can record directly in the browser or upload an mp3/m4a file from any portion page. The recording should cover the full aliyah at a clear, steady learning pace.
An admin reviews it
Before anything goes live, an admin listens to the recording to make sure it's a good fit for learners — clear audio, correct trope, appropriate pace.
Word-by-word alignment
The recording is then aligned to the text — each word is time-stamped so it lights up at exactly the right moment during playback. This is what makes the learning experience work.
It goes live
Once aligned, the recording is published. The contributor gets an email, and students across the site can start learning from their voice.
Want to Contribute?
This site grows one recording at a time. If you read Torah clearly and at a learning pace, your voice could help hundreds of students prepare for their reading — long after you record it. Contributors can see how many unique listeners their recordings reach, and appear on the contributor leaderboard.

Help Align Recordings
Uploaded recordings need to be reviewed and aligned word-by-word before they go live. If you'd like to help with that, get in touch.
Support the Site
This site is completely free to use — and we intend to keep it that way.
לימוד תורה is a non-profit passion project. There are no ads, no subscriptions, and no data being sold. But running it does have real costs: hosting, audio storage for every recording that contributors donate, and the domain that keeps the site alive.
If we could grow a small support base, we'd put it toward things that directly benefit learners — automated backups so recordings are never lost, expanded storage to bring in more contributors, and new reading content beyond the weekly Torah portions: Haftarot, Megillot, and more.
A donation option is coming soon. In the meantime, the best way to support the site is to share it with someone who could use it.
